Riders Custom Clothier was my other label. I know seems an odd name but not for the industry it was in. See I made show clothing for people who show horses. I've done everything from custom tailored hunt coats, (riding jackets) and western show jackets with appliqued designs and sequines and crystals, so I've done some couture work already. If you don't think doing riding cloths is not couture wow you are so wrong. When showing horses you want your outfit different from anyone elses so most outfits are one of a kind. A really great show outfit will cost you $300-$700 and more depending on the time required for construction and of course the fabrics. Great fabrics with stretch can be pricey. Plus when you sew on details you want to make sure they stay put so doing an extra stitch for a button or on a seam makes it worth the cost. Showing horses and riding can be tough on clothing.
The show cloths today are really great statements and are never boring. Let me tell you as a licensed horse show judge here in Wisconsin when you have a ring full of horses that are basically the same color you want to have riders in different colors and patterns so you can keep them all in order.
So thats a bit about my other label.

2009 Fashions for Fall
I gotta say the Fall 2009 fashions are fantastic. I haven't seen clothing this good looking in a while. I love the look of the 40's and theres alot of that influencing whats on the racks right now. There seems to be a return to the classics which I love. All the major department stores and discount retailers are stocking up. With the way the economy is you can buy great pieces that can been worn for years to come. Thats getting value for your dollar and I'm all for that.
Why a blog and why about fashion. Hey I've always had a thing for fashion. I've been reading Vogue, Glamor, Bazzar, French Elle, (before it became Elle here in the States) and Seventeen off and on since the mid seventies (I was a teenager then, hated most of the fashion from the 70's espcially what was in for teens). My favorite mags now are Vogue (the fashion bible of course) Teen Vogue, Elle, In Style, & Seventeen.Grandma was a charter subscriber to Cosmopolitan magazine when it first was published in the late 60's, she kept her subscription up until she died, in 2004 that is along time to subscribe to one magazine.
My grandma whose initials are the name of this blog MVSJ, Marguerite Viola Scudder and then my name Julie, I think its a pretty cool name, sounds classy to me. My Grandma was I think a very stylish woman she always was "put together" before she ever left her house, shoes, purse, makeup, outfit, jewelry fingernails etc. I'll be putting photos of her up at a later time.
She always had a fashion magazine laying around her home, it was one of the first things I always did when I visited was to read whatever was the latest arrival. She loved the photo spreads but hated the advertising, tried to explain to her that they where needed to keep those 5lb magazines coming in the mail. Personally I love the ads in the magazines its a way to see more of the fashion thats out there.
One of the reasons I started this blog was a comment made to me 2 years ago while I attened cosmetology school, (at the ripe OLD age of 44, I was second oldest in my class of '08). Those who truly know me, will know what a shocker this comment was too me, when it was uttered I just shook my head and ignored the comment but yes it did and still does bug the heck out of me. Some how one day in class the subject of fashion came up probably because we as hair stylists we need to be up with the trends that are out there and current. I don't remember exactly why I said something in response to something my instructor said but her reply was and I qoute "Oh you just have boys you don't know anything about fashion!" So apparently if you raise boys you don't have a clue about fashion, hmmm... Funny that,... I help my friends and co-workers pick out cloths that look good on them, i.e. color, fit etc. I guess my down fall with this person came when I dug a pattern of a dress out of the garbage at school and was looking it over because my mother always told me to never throw pattern pieces away they can come in handy for anything. Well my instructor gave me the dirtiest look as if how dare I to take that garbage out of the can. So I waded it up and threw it back in the can. Oh yea she only buys couture...NOT. Am I kinda bitter about that comment? YA THINK! That was something that really made me mad and got me thinking about fashion even more, besides this blog name is actually my second design label. Yep I've done some work. More on that a little later.
